Virtual Studio

The pedagogy of the studio method of solving problems and learning through reflective practice is created using virtual technology.  The technology is used as a bridge between teams tackling problems in professional practice and experts located remotely.  We create the studio conditions and facilitate defining, framing, constructing, formalizing and solving the problem at hand.

It is often the case that design is learned most deeply while doing.

As Donald Schön reminds us:

“[problems] tend not to present themselves to practitioners as problems at all but as messy indeterminate situations”

He further challenges us:

“should we stay on the ‘high ground’ of technical rationality to solve unimportant problems according to prevailing standards of rigor?, or should we descend in to the ‘swamp’ of important problems and non-rigorous inquiry?”

STUDIO-V on demand offers all engineering designers an immediate access design coaching expertise at the time that it is needed, during the ‘action-present’ (Schön, 1985), during the time one is engaging with a tough problem.

Virtual technology has evolved significantly since the start of the global pandemic, and this service takes advantage of this technology to provide global and immediate accessibility to design coaching ‘artistry’ (Schön, 1985).
